Question
Hi Evelyn,
This time I would like to know where I can find info about at what age to introduce certain types of food.  I have already read Steiner's book on Nutrition, but I don't remember that in that book there is any indication about this matter.  Can you suggest any other Steiner's book or lecture?
Thank you

Antonietta

Answer
Dear Antonietta,

The new publication "Nutrition" by Steiner is probably the most useful source for anything (not terribly much, mind you) that Steiner said on nurition specifically. It seems to compile all the information Steiner gave us.

Rudolf Hauschka developed this material in an accessible yet comprehensive manner, including medical perspectives and cosmogenological backgrounds. His book "Nutrition: a Holistic Approach" does include a chapter on children's diets too.

A Guide to Child Health,by Wolfgang Goebel & Michaela Glockler, widely available, gives some guidelines in chapter 14, which, at least, gets you started. But I more or less assume you already have used that book extensively in your training.

But the one you are really looking for is Baby's First Year by Paulien Bom & Machteld Huber.

Gerhard Schmidt is also good, but more extensive and the only one translated into English deals with foods in general (milk, soy, grains etc) so would take more studying; another really fine source specifically for children would be Udo Renzenbrink, however, I think the problem might be that he has not been translated into English, I don't think.

"Evolution of Mankind in the Mirror of Types of Nutrition", if your German is adquate, would make a lovely addition, giving you a living picture of the reasons behind the introduction of certain foods at certain stages, corresponding to the evolution of Man (the microcosmos mirroring the macrocosmos) - it exists however only in the German to my knowledge: "Menschheitsentwicklung im Speigel der Ernahrungsformen.

Hoping to have helped you with some new suggestions,
(Will sleep on the other question a few days)
Love Evelyn.
