beef and pork

Question
Hi
My husband has found he has much less gas and bloating, indigestion if he cuts back on beef and pork.
Last night after going a week without any (he eats chicken fish, etc) he had one pork chop and had gas all night and the next day.
Is this normal?
He is 50. I have heard that as you get older you cant digest as well.
His buddies that are big meat eaters all have big bellies.
Thanks!

Answer
Sue,
It's pretty rare to have sudden trouble digesting red meat after not having issues for 50 years. Frequently gas and bloating are caused by imbalance of intestinal bacteria-your husband might try eating more yogurt and fewer yeast foods (bread, beer).
Most people that are "big eaters" of any food type are going to have big bellies.
