I'm curious to know what your thoughts are on the Stanley
Burroughs master cleanse lemonade diet? Have you or anyone
you known ever tried it? Do you think there is truth to it?

Dear Brittany,

Very sorry never heard of this diet.
I do know of a fast with lemon and water which is very effective. Just drink squeezed lemon with mineral water one to three times a day  for three to five days. Drink some clay along with it for extra effect (cleans out the slugs in the gut).
Add fruit and vegetable cocktails (5 times a day) to a fast that lasts more than two days. Only try this when you don't need to do extenuating work or any demanding physical activity. Sleep and meditate plenty, too.Drink 2-3 litres of water (to flush and stay in flow). Take relaxing walks, do breathing exercises. Have a massage or aroma therapy if possilbe. Do not make a habit out of it. The health benefits outrightly are not scientifically proven. There is also no proven correlation between cleansing and alkaline blood.
It tends to be a phase you go through, but don't go on one more than once a year (spring preferably) and only if you are young, fit, and adventurous. It is an exercise for the spirit more than anything else. You can try it to see what happens to you, your body, and above all your mind.
You must come out of the fast slowly, a bowl of rice and vegetables on day one, add yoghurt on day two, etc.
The power of such fasts lies in not putting any toxins into your body for a while.And the discipline it demands. But it does not work for everybody. Some people simply become too faint, weak or lethargic. Some people even become toxified by the sudden release of toxins (causing extreme fatigue, giddiness, depression, nausea, skin erruptions etc).
In a regular healthy diet, lemon water for breakfast helps repress appetite somewhat, gives a good boost to your mood (wakes you up), gives you vitamins, but it can make you feel sick if your stomach is not so strong (very acidic). Some conditions do not fare to well on citrus, besides (notably some youthful skin conditions and other irritatons).
The detoxifying effects of just one or two glasses of lemon-water while you still keep on eating is minimal. If you have a healthy diet already it just adds to the benefits of eating fresh fruit.
I hope this Stanley isn't making any money out of some fad. There really is very little new under the sun, just bear that in mind.
