Diet for IBS and reflux

Question
Hi Tanya,

I have quite severe irritable bowel syndrome and I also have problems with the valve at the top of my stomach - the pipe is too wide at the bottom so the valve can't function properly, allowing food/acids to jump up. Do you have any general diet advice to reduce the burning and IBS cramping/constipation?  I have been told to avoid chocolate/caffeine/alcohol, and I eat weetbix or oats for breakfast - is there anything else that I can do?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Tracey,

You are doing right things. You might want to add some of these supplements:

Wheat bran
Corn fiber
Fibercon
Metamucil
Fiberall
Osmotic laxatives (Lactulose, MiraLax)

Do not use stimulant laxatives since they tend to be too irritate for your condition.
