Restricting calories and exercising with no weight loss results

Question
QUESTION: Hi Tanya,

I am currently 5'9 170 pounds.  I am trying to lose 20 pounds.  I have lost weight easily in the past on the south beach diet, but it seems that my body has adapted and I can no longer lose weight.  I have incorporated exercise and I eat healthy foods (fruit, veggies, lean meat, and whole grains occasionally).  I exercise about 5 days a week, intensity varies from yoga/pilates to 55 minutes of moderate intervals and weight lifting.  Despite eating anywhere from 700-1800 calories a day I can not lose anything!  My clothes do not fit differently, and I am extremely frustrated!I truly do not know what else I can do to lose the weight!  I have been working out for 3 weeks now and still no weight loss.  Help!  What do I need to do differently?

ANSWER: Dear Erin,

You might be taking too much of carbohydrates with the fruit and even whole grains, too little of essential fats (lean meat, no fish, nuts, oils?) - and too little calories.

The principle is, if something doesn't work, try something different. I suggest that you read about such different approach, completely based on scientific facts. If you like it, subscribe. This plan is free of charge:

QUESTION: Thanks for your quick reply,

I do eat fish a couple times a week, and  have more protein  than anything else, I usually have one fruit a day.  I also snack on nuts and low fat cheese as snacks.  I take 2 tbsp of extra light olive oil twice a day as well.  I will check out that site you recommended as well, but would 1300- 1800 calories be good or too low?  I am not sure how much i should be eating to make sure I am not too low?

Thanks again,
Erin

Answer
Erin,

Calorie restriction is not a reliable way to lose weight AND keep it off. Following a diet that shifts your metabolic mode from running on carbs to running on fat (your body fat including) will decrease your appetite so you eat less while never being hungry -- remember: hunger is the greatest diet sabotager forcing your body to conserve energy.

OK, you exercise, but research showed that your body compensates for that calorie loss by either making you eat more, or, if you don't, it  finds many hidden ways to sabotage: your skin temperature decrease so you lose less calories, your resting metabolism slows down so you burn less outside your gym time, you subconsciously move more economically and it adds during the day.
