The average person in a typical Western society drinks one out of every five calories she/he consumes

That's 20% of your total calories coming in the form of liquids. If you're having a problem losing weight but you're being really careful about what you eat, you might need to watch the liquid calories you're consuming.

Very few people consider how many calories are in the drinks they consume.

Here are the seven best and worst things to drink if your goal is a tight tummy and lean physique. I’ve given you some alternative options for your favourite beverage.

1. Worst: soda/fizzy drinks

The worst drink you can put into your body is undoubtedly soda. These drinks contain hundreds of empty calories and are full of sugar and chemicals.

Plus, they give you the feeling of being ultra-refreshed (really just a rush from the sugar) so drinking one makes you likely to reach for another next time you're thirsty. If you want to lose weight, do not drink soda, period.

2. Best: water

The word 'hydration' has 'hydra' in it because hydration is about water. No, it doesn't 'taste nice'. That's not really the point.

Water is the best liquid for your body, because that is what 70% of your body is made of, and what is needed for every single cell to function. Water is also great for weight loss because it is calorie-free. So drink water ... LOTS of water.
