Tips for a balanced diet and weight loss plan: What are the non-negotiables?

What are the NON-NEGOTIABLES?

The amount of diet information out there is staggering. To make it worse, much of it is conflicting. To make things clearer, I find it best to simplify.

So my question becomes: What are the NON-NEGOTIABLES when it comes to losing weight?

If we can answer this question we can free ourselves from the tyranny of food-related fear-mongering and lose weight successfully without the stress usually associated with dieting.

So, what are they? Well, here are some that have helped me to simplify my approach to weight loss, and which have helped my clients too:

  • You must eat the majority (80% minimum) of your diet from plant-based foods
  • You must stay hydrated (with water) at all times
  • You must get at least six hours of quality sleep every night
  • You must eat a variety of foods, not the same foods every day
  • You must eat the correct number of calories for your body
  • You must take in at least 30g of fibre per day
  • You must take as little medication as possible
  • You must take as few stimulants as possible
  • You must win the war against your 'cravings'
  • You must learn what true hunger feels like
  • You must find ways to deal with stress that do not include comfort foods or alcohol
  • You must do these things every day for more than 12 weeks
