Good-for-you fats

Cutting out all forms of fat is usually one of the first things to happen at the start of a new diet.

But just like protein and carbohydrates, your body needs fats to thrive. Yes, fats! But not just any fat... good-for-you fats.

These fats are nutrients that do a number of things for your body. They...

  • Give you energy

  • Help rebuild cells

  • Produce needed hormones

Examples of good and bad fats

Foods like nuts, seeds, fish, olives, low-fat dairy, and avocados all contain these good fats. Try and incorporate at least one or two into your daily diet.

At the same time, get into the habit of limiting or cutting out saturated and trans fats (bad fats). These are found in processed foods, butter, high-fat dairy, and red meat.
