detox and eating healthily

HI Laurie,

I'd like to seek your advise. My boyfriend is renting a room alone, and always eat his meals outside. He likes to eat oily and fattening food, and love to drink soft drinks i.e. Coca Cola, Pepsi, etc..and he likes to eat ice cream too.

Although he plays tennis 4 days a week for 2 hours, I still feel he should eat more healthy food. And, he never detox too.

I was wondering, what can I do to help him detox and cleanse his colon? I just dont want him to get disease i.e. diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc..

Dear Jessica,

I get questions like yours all the time: "How can I help my loved one eat more healthy?  They eat a terrible diet and I want to see them healthy."

But, there is nothing we can do to make them change.  It's like trying to get someone you love off of drugs--they are the only one who can decide they want to do things differently.

The human body is amazingly adaptive; we can feed our body all sorts of, well, crap, and we manage to make do for long periods of time on precious little nutritious food!
Your boyfriend eats what he likes and what is easy, and unless you want to cook him food that's healthy and bring it to him every day (and he likes it) your options are limited to merely expressing your concern.

As for detoxing, I am trained in Western medicine which does not promote any type of "cleansing" as necessary for the body.  We believe the body cleanses itself by eliminating waste through the processes of the liver, kidneys, and intestine.
