protein and carbohydrate

Question
Why should protein and carbohydrates not be eaten at the same
meal?

Answer
Hi Nina,

It's a myth that you shouldn't eat protein and carbohydrates at the same meal. In fact, since many foods contain a combination of proteins and carbohydrates (some examples would be milk, legumes, and whole grains) it would be extremely difficult to do this.

A well-balanced meal contains a mix of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats; each meal should include whole grains, a protein rich food, at least 1-2 servings of fruits and vegetables, and a calcium-rich food.

For accurate nutrition information, visit sites such as Dietitians of Canada (dietitians.ca) or The American Dietetic Association (eatright.org).

Hope that helps!
