Evening run?

Question
Nevil
I have been jogging and weightlifting regularly for several months mostly in an effort to lose the beer belly.
I have reduced my carb and fat intake and overall calories as well.
The belly hasnt shrunk at all and I havent lost weight but I am firmer and look better.MY stomach muscles are showing but they stick way out.
I used to follow the traditional wisdom of running in the morning on an empty stomach, but while googling I came across this gem:
"Abdominal distention is commonly referred to as "pot belly". It is brought on by over loading your intestinal system with large volumes of food, then sitting down, or lying down, thereby allowing the stomach muscle to relax. When this process is repeated often, it will lead to a permanent protrusion that is almost impossible to change."
For years I have had my supper on the couch and pretty much remained there. Should I change my routine to a run after supper?
Thanks.

Formula 1..the no.1 me
Hi Barry,

It is more about what you eat and how much you eat. I, and many others I know, eat and evening meal and then relax, yet we do nit suffer the same distention as others. the only difference is in what we eat and our portion size.

I always recommend 6 small meals a day, so that your evening one will not overfill your stomach, and you will not feel like eating any more.

As to what you should eat, remember the golden rule: everything has to be balanced to work properly. Too much of one food group will not be beneficial. So throw out any myths you have come across about eating loads of veg...as it would only work if you also ate loads of protein and fibres, and good fats- and that leads to huge portions!

I live and love my vitality effect because of having small meals that consist of protein, good carbs and fibre. Also, I drink 8-10 glasses of water a day- ESSENTIAL!!!

I would imagine that if you decided to run after supper you would just end up wanting to eat more before bed.

Finally, you should find that you actually eat slightly more (but of all the good foods) to keep your energy up and your fat burning going like a furnace!

So, stick to the morning exercise and simply change your approach to eating and I'm sure you'll see and feel the difference.

If you do want an extra boost then supplements and meal replacement shakes are brilliant!

All the best
