Question
I have recently dieted and lost 20 lbs. I am 14 years old, and i weighed 145 lbs. I am really dissapointed because i've gained back almost all the weight. I know, from this that i am capable of losing weight. I also know that i did it because i was extremely determined. The thing is, that i have a REALLY bad attitude. I am all or nothing. This means that if i say 'today I'm going to eat 1,300 calories', and i'm at 1,400 calories, but i'm hungry, i'll just binge because i figure 'oh well, i'ts too late now to be perfect, so i might as well be really bad.'. This attitude is the reason that i've gained the weight back. My question is, how can i change my mind set so i think, when i'm 100 calories over, 'Wow, i did really well today, i almost got 1,300 calories, i'll try harder tommorrow.'?

Answer
Dear Val, Don't be so hard on yourself. You are angry at yourself for gaining back the weight and for acting weak by overeating. To get back into the weight loss mindset, take yourself back to what you were doing when you were motivated and try to do that again. Walking 30 minutes everyday releases anxiety and helps you to think things over-try it for a few weeks. Keep a journal of your angry thoughts and mad moments. I really can't tell you a specific way to motivate you to lose weight, if I could, I would cure the obesity problem. Motivation has to start from within, so go back and look for it, it was there once. Don't give up. Have a great summer, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
