Food Allergy Diet

Question
Our son has food allergies. He was tested when he was 3 years old and tested positive for the following: wheat, dairy, sheep milk, egg white, egg yolk, corn, cane sugar. These are the BIG ones and some like tomato and trout are smaller ones. Our son is 10 yrs. old and quite thin. I am concerned because it doesnt seem like he is growing how he should be. So what I wanted to know is what we can give him to fatten him up and to put some weight on him?  He is always hungry which I know is quite the norm for a boy so what can we do so he can put the weight he needs on and weigh more than he does? He weighs about only 70 lbs if that.  A year ago he only weighed like 66-68 lbs. So please advise. You probably need to know what we do give him. Main foods are: spelt bread, all meats, all veggies,
rice milk, all fruits(accept strawberry and tomato). All the foods he can have are mostly rice based for his carbs for breads, crackers, pasta, etc.

Thank you

Answer
Maureen,
Your question is what can you give your son that you aren't already. I have a suspicion that a better question is what are you already feeding him that you shouldn't. Even miniscule contamination from allergy trigger foods can cause your son's stomach to not absorb calories well, causing him to be thin. You may want to have your son's allergies re-tested to make sure nothing has changed (he may have grown out of old allergies or developed new ones or a combination of both), and then go through your entire house and look for any possible source of allergies. Wheat is often found in odd places like lotions and even Chapstick and you really have to work to eliminate it.
As far as what you're feeding him now, it sounds like he's getting plenty of excellent nutrition. I hope that you sometimes give him higher-fat meats (not all plain chicken!) and prepare his foods with healthy oils like olive, canola, to make sure he gets enough fats in the diet. Unfortunately increasing his dietary fat won't make him gain weight.
Good luck!
Melissa
