South Beach Diet

Question
Hi,
I'm in my 3rd week of the South Beach diet. By the time I was 10 days into it I had lost 10lbs. I decided to stay on the first phase an extra week to see if I could drop a few more pounds rather quickly. I have not lost anything in 7 days. I do not understand what is going on. I have been very strict on myself and I have not cheated once. Is there anything I can do to kick start my weight loss?

Answer
Misty,
Since you are doing everything right, please be patient.  To lose 10 pounds in one week is very drastic and the body cannot keep losing large amounts so quickly after that.  For weight loss to STAY OFF the slower it comes off the better.  You want your weight loss to equal 1% of your body weight per week (when averaged out).  For example, if you are 200 pounds, the average of 2 pounds a week.  To clarify further, it takes years to gain the weight, it's going to take a while to come off.  Does this help?  I wish you all the best with your weight loss and maintenance of a lower weight and cannot stress enough that it takes time.  Feel free to ask any follow up question if needed.
